Lot Essay

The present work, part of Max Kalish's celebrated Labor series begun in 1921, demonstrates the artist's long-standing admiration of the beauty to be found in the strength and intelligent action of the working man. An example of 'Iron Forger' was awarded Second Prize in a May 1927 exhibition at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, Ohio.
