Penck (b. 1939) Born Ralf Winkler in Dresden, Germany, in 1939, Penck was part of the Neue Wilde-group of painters, who were inspired by the German Expressionists, as well as by graffiti, prehistoric art and tribal art. The artist worked with the Stamperia d’Arte 2RC in 1984, making the most of the enormous presses and acid baths, which allowed him to create his dense tableaux of primitive figures, masks and beasts in print, on a scale to rival the largest of canvases.
