Each cow decorated with mulberry-coloured patches outlined in black, a calf at her feet, sponged with blue, one attended by a farmer and the other by his wife, standing on oval bases sponged with blue, ochre and black

Lot Essay

Although unmarked, the groups in the present lot were probably made by the factory that used a large impressed crown mark. See John and Griselda Lewis Pratt Ware (Woodbridge, 1984), p. 82 for a discussion of this as yet unidentified factory, and the pages following for illustrations of its wares.
