Lot Essay

Another supper table identical in every respect including the unusual brass pull, but with rectangular flaps, was formerly in the James Thursby-Pelham collection and sold by Mrs. Sotheby Bird, Christie's London, 5 April 1973, lot 40. Another table from the Marquess of Salisbury's collection, which lacks the grill sides and features a marquetry oval, is illustrated in P. Macquoid, The Age of Satinwood, London, 1908, p. 92, figs. 83-84.
