Jean-Louis Grégoire (d. 1890) was born in Paris on 17 December 1840, son of Joseph-Auguste, a ciseleur. He was a pupil of Salmson, attended l'École des Beaux-Arts and from 1867 started exhibiting in the Salon where he was awarded a mention honorable, and in 1889 a médaille de troisième classe. His repertoire included busts of contemporary figures, mythological figures, and after the French defeat of 1870 patriotic subjects. His sculpture, 'Soldat' , is in the musée de Louviers, and 'L'Alsace' in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés.
