The design for the present side cabinet is taken from the lacquer model by Martin Carlin (maître in 1766), supplied by the marchand-mercier, Darnault, and delivered at a cost of 6,500 livres to Madame Victoire at the château de Bellevue in 1785. A pair of 19th century lacquer commode, circa 1870, of this model were in the collection of Baron Mayer de Rothschild or his daughter, Hannah, later Countess of Rosebery at Mentmore, Buckinghamshire, and sold from the property, Sotheby's, 18 May 1977, lot 57. A 19th century lacquer commode of this type by Beurdeley sold Sotheby's, New York, 14 April 2008, lot 404 ($277,000).
