Château La Mission-Haut-Brion 1959
Pessac (Graves), cru classé
Slightly shrunken corks. Two corroded capsules. Good labels. Levels: three base of neck or better, one top, one upper and one mid/upper-shoulder
Tasting note: The Woltners at their peak. The wine took 20 years to shrug off some of the tannin. Most recently, a superb bottle: deep, tinged with cherry red; earthy, ‘cheese rind’. Singed tobacco, pebbly, its crisp fruit opening up richly; crisp, aggressive, convincing, with excellent tannin and acidity. Last tasted June 2000 ***** And will keep
