Château Gruaud-Larose 1959
Saint-Julien, 2ème cru classé
Nicolas. Bin-soiled and damaged labels. Levels; one top, two upper, one mid/upper-shoulder
Tasting note: Many notes, many bottlings, all good, for this was still a period when experienced British merchants were at their most dependable, the Army & Navy Stores’ bottlings particularly notable. I must confess that at the Weinart blind tasting I would have bet heavily that the ’59 was the ’61. The ’59 was so dry, severe and tannic, though fully mature-looking, sweet and spicy on the nose. Last tasted Nov 1994 **** Will still be good M.B.
