Joseon dynasty (early 20th century)
Carved with three connected cylinders of different heights designed to hold brushes of different lengths, the tallest cylinder carved in high relief with cherry branches and floral scroll below a band of fretwork and four Chinese characters, the mid-sized cylinder carved with two cranes and further scroll and the shortest carved with matching scroll and fret and leaf bands, the carved decoration stained and polished golden brown and the shallow recessed background areas and rims lacquered black, the flat base undecorated
