Rectangular, with canted corners, pierce-carved on three sides with rectangular panels of fretwork through which is visible a background colored gold, the surface of the flat cover applied with black lacquer through which the red underlayer intentionally shows through at the perimeter of the lid and surfaces of the reticulated panels; fitted with a metal hasp with floret terminal and circular lockplate, interior glossy black lacquer
