Two Wood Wedding Ducks
(20th century)
One realistically modelled as a mallard duck with typical flattened bill and splayed tail, the back feathers indicated by black scalloped lines over the brown-stained body and by a roughly oval section of carved lines to suggest rows of feathers, the head separately carved and set into a hole at the top of the body, the surface also applied with a glossy varnish; the other duck more abstractly carved with slender head and neck fitted into a slot in the body, the feathers represented by both the grain of the wood and by lines of black paint; character mark on base
First 13in. (33.2cm.) long; 6½in. (16cm.) high; second 12 5/8in. (32cm.); 7 5/8in. (19.3cm.) high (2)
