A Moulded Turtle-form Water Dropper with Cup-form Reservoir
Joseon dynasty (19th century)
The large water dropper modelled as a longevity tortoise with an integral extended reservoir base that is carved in low relief with two confronted cranes, also emblematic of longevity; the central circular reserve for the cup reservoir pierced with six small holes placed to resemble a floret through which flows the water into the body of the turtle water dropper and through the tortoise's mouth when tilted; the water cup moulded on the exterior with a crane and clouds and in the well with an upright cylinder handle with flat floret tip and pierced at the base with a small hole to allow water to trickle into the six-hole floret at the top of the tortoise; both parts of the water dropper applied with a glossy transparent glaze of pronounced blue cast
