Lot Essay

Henry Bence was a lieutenant in the 16th Light Dragoons. The diary gives a detailed account of the campaigns in Portugal and Spain, with descriptions of many battles including Talavera and Fuentes d'Onoro. Volume 2 contains extracts from official military despatches, mostly Wellington's. The lot also includes 3 folding engraved maps belonging to Bence, both signed by him, includes Nantiat & Faden's Spain (1810) and Bentelle & Stockdale's Map of Spain and Portugal (1808).
