The inscription reads as: 'amal-e 'aquil khan, or "work of Aquil Khan." For a comparable work depicting two women in a similar composition and with similar long-legged proportions, see L.Y. Leach, Mughal and Other Indian Paintings from the Chester Beatty Library, vol. II, 1995, p. 696, fig. 6.339.
