Lot Essay

Compare the jar of this shape, covered with a blue glaze, dated Tang dynasty, ca. 8th century, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, illustrated by S. Valenstein in A Handbook of Chinese Ceramics, New York, 1989 rev. ed., p. 64, no. 56, where the author discusses how the monochrome glaze emphasizes the "elegant lines" of the vessel.
The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence no. C114a12 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
