A LARGE CARVED JICHIMU DISPLAY CABINET, DUOBAOGE
19TH CENTURY
The cabinet is divided into shelves of various shapes and sizes with carved borders, above four drawers carved with stylized interlocking chilong and a pair of small reticulated doors. The two doors of the lower section are carved with bats suspending beribboned chimes and twin fish. The whole is raised on square legs joined by a shaped apron carved with archaistic scroll.

Lot Essay

Compare the very similar jichimu cabinet dated to the late Qing dynasty, illustrated by Tian Jiaqing, Classic Chinese Furniture of the Qing Dynasty, Hong Kong, 1995, p. 235, no. 106. A hongmu cabinet of similar form, with similar carved decoration, was sold in Christie's New York, 19 March 2009, lot 646.
