A LARGE INSCRIBED IRON BELL
DATED 47TH YEAR OF THE QIANLONG PERIOD, CORRESPONDING TO 1782, AND OF THE PERIOD
The bell is of domed shape with curved ends below a narrow band of low relief scrolls, and the exterior is cast with four panels of inscriptions. The shoulder is decorated with blossoms within shaped panels above a row of bosses, and is surmounted by a dragon-form handle.

Lot Essay

The dedicatory inscription includes a date (an auspicious date in the 47th year of the Qianlong, corresponding to 1782) followed by the names of the two heads of the group that commissioned the bell, Han Yang and Liu Jun, and the names of the other donors.
