TWO KESI CHAIR COVERS
18TH CENTURY
Each panel is finely woven in shades of blue, green, ochre, pale blue and brown on a rich gold ground. The top register is decorated with leafy peony branches growing from a rocky outcrop, below multi-colored ruyi-form clouds beneath peaches and bats surrounding a single shou character at the top. The lower register is decorated with a dragon emerging from rocks and waves in pursuit of a a flaming pearl. The bottom of one is decorated with a caparisoned elephant, and the other with two cranes in flight bearing peaches. Each has an archaistic dragon border.
