AN AGATE 'HEHE ERXIAN' SNUFF BOTTLE

Of well-hollowed, ovoid form, the bottle is carved on either side with one of the Hehe twins, one holding a sign reading tian xia tai ping ('peace under heaven'), the other with a sign reading yi tuan he qi ('goodwill brings harmony').
1 7/8 in. (4.5 cm.) high, pink tourmaline stopper
Provenance
Kay Blair Collection (1916-1985), Princeton, New Jersey, acquired in London, 1960s, and thence by descent.
