Lot Essay

The bronzier Maison Mottheau & Fils is perhaps best known for the 'torchère lumineuse' exhibited at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle. For other mounts stamped to the reverse 'EM', see a bureau de dame with the same sabots as the present gueridon, sold Christie's King Street, 15 March 2012, lot 41, and a vitrine with the same frieze mount as the present gueridon, sold Christie's King Street 19 March 2009, lot 8. See also a gueridon signed by F. Linke with almost identical leg mounts, sold Christie’s King Street, 22 March 2001, lot 285.
