This piece will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné Wendell Castle: A Catalogue Raisonné 1958-2012 published by The Artist Book Foundation and written by Emily Evans Eerdmans, with essays by Glenn Adamson, Jane Adlin, and Dave Barry.

'Harmonious Opportunities', from the 'Angel Chairs' series, presents the wings of the wingback chair quite literally, and the anthropomorphic piece both metaphorically and physically becomes a dark angel. Carved from wood, this headless seraph with two feet on the ground has outstretched wings which harken, offering to enwrap and protect, but its somewhat somber and foreboding pose is also one of proclamation, a reminder that angels are messengers from other realms whose communications might have dramatic consequences.
