Lot Essay

This design of this carpet is a copy of the Safavid silk Isfahan carpet illustrated by Arthur Upham Pope, A Survey of Persian Art, London and New York, 1939, vol. III, pp. 2397-9 and illustrated in colour, vol. VI, pl. 1261 which was later sold in The Doris Duke Collection, Christie's, New York, 3 June 2008, lot 37.
