PROBABLY MASHHAD, IRAN, DATED 10 DHU'L QA'DA AH 1115/3 MARCH 1704 AD
Arabic manuscript on paper, comprising 23ll. of dense black naskh beneath 3ll. of similar gold, blue and red script, above this a stylised maroon bismallah on a ground of gold scrolling vine, three blocks of notes around this, the text in a column outlined in gold and blue, a further column to the right containing two similar lines of black naskh and a number of gold floral sprays, repairs to upper and lower edges not affecting text, mounted, framed and glazed

Lot Essay

This document is a contract for a land purchase in the vicinity of Mashhad. The land was bought by the grand vizier of the Safavid Shah Sultan Husayn (r.1694-1722), Muhammad Mu'min Khan Shamlu 'Itimad al-Dawla. The contract states that Muhammd Mu'min Khan bought the land through his agents from a certain 'Abd al-Ghaffar.
