THE CALLIGRAPHY ON THE REVERSE SIGNED 'ABDULLAH AL-HUSAYNI, MUGHAL INDIA, FIRST HALF 17TH CENTURY
Tinted drawing on buff paper, Ram Singh leans back against a gold embroidered baluster cushion upon a chariot led by two grey horses, in his hands he carries a bow and arrow, two figures run before them one carrying clubs and a ball, stuck down with orange paper on gold-speckled blue margins, an identification inscription in nasta'liq in the upper right hand corner, some flaking and rubbing, now mounted as an album page the verso with a nasta'liq quatrain written in black in clouds reserved against gold ground with polychrome floral illumination, signature of 'Abdullah al-Husayni in the lower left hand corner, laid down within polychrome rules on minor orange and wider green margins, flaking to folio
Painting 4½ x 7 7/8in. (11.3 x 20.1cm.); calligraphy 7½ x 4in. (19.1 x 10.3cm.); folio 7 7/8 x 11 1/8in. (20 x 27.5cm.)

The inscription in the upper right hand corner reads, '...Ram Singh son of Mirza Raja Jai Singh'
