KASHMIR, NORTH INDIA, DATED AH 1281/1864-65 AD
Arabic manuscript on paper, 290ff. plus 1 fly-leaf, each folio with 11ll. of elegant black naskh with gold roundel verse markers, sura headings in gold nasta'liq in cusped cartouches with gold scrolling vine terminals on darker gold ground, text in wide gold rules, the margins with section markers written in red ink in gold cusped palmettes in the margins often issuing further palmettes outlined in gold containing scrolling vine, eight bifolium including the opening bifolio fully illuminated with the text written in white clouds on gold ground with a sura heading above in gold ink and a gold floral headpiece, set in gold floral margins and bands of scrolling floral vine, the second bifolio with an illuminated floral headpiece with the text white clouds on gold ground, prayers at the end with a headpiece with intertwined multidirectional gold thuluth set on a ground of scrolling floral vine, the colophon dated and with a seal stamp, set in a later stamped red morocco, some folios loose in the middle of the manuscript
