Lot Essay

The strong profile of Krishna in this painting is very similar to that in a painting attributed to a follower of Sajnu in the Victoria and Albert Museum (inv. I.S.477-1950, W. G. Archer, Indian Paintings from the Punjab Hills, London, 1973, no. 50, p. 276). Archer cites that Sajnu was recorded as having been a painter at Kangra prior to moving to Mandi.
