AN OTTOMAN HORN BOW AND ARROWS
TURKEY, LATE 19TH CENTURY
The bow of curved form tapering towards the ends, the surface painted in red and gold with arabesque design at centre, above and below this stars and crescents flanking a rococo leafy scroll, the interior with small floral sprays contained within rococo cartouches, the six arrows all plain but numbered at the base

Descriptif du lot

Similar bows and arrows are known to date from as early as the 16th century. Early examples were exhibited at the recent Harem exhibition at the Topkapi (Alev Taskin (ed.), Harem. House of the Sultan, exhibition catalogue, Istanbul, 2012, no.170, pp.288-89).
