ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT, DATED AH 1289/1872-73 AD
With rounded stepped base with wide flat rim and raised lip with scrolling vine, cusped handles on either side, the dome-shaped lid with a floral finial, the base, lid and the finial with sah stamps and the base and lid with tughras probably of Ottoman Sultan Abdulaziz, the underside of the base with three hallmarks giving the place of production as Alexandria, the side of the lids with the lid with a crest engraved with the name of Isma'il and dated 1289, the underside of one of the dishes engraved with the inscription Malik in stylised naskh
Each 8in. (20.3cm.) diam.
