The map shows Sandy Hook Bay in the south and the southern end of Manhattan in the north. "Competition from The Atlantic Neptune and an increased demand for accurate surveys of the American coast forced the publishers of The English Pilot to update several charts in their atlas. This improved chart of New York Harbor shows many new shoals, channels, soundings, navigational sightings, and landmarks..." (Sellers & van Ee).
