Black ink and gold on paper, elegantly written in four lines of neat nasta'liq script, each line within cloud on gold ground, with floral sprays, between gold and polychrome illuminated panels, laid down on card with floral silhouette borders in blue and red, signed in the lower left corner, the reverse with old collector label, mounted, framed and glazed

Hassan Shamlu was a 17th century calligrapher and poet. Two of his recorded works are dated AH 1037 (1627-28 AD) and AH 1045 (1635-36 AD) (Mehdi Bayani, Ahval va Asar-e Khosh-Nevisan, Vol. I, Tehran, 1345 sh, pp. 142-4).
