JOHN MACCULLOCH (1773-1835)
A Description of the Western Islands of Scotland, including the Isle of Man. London: for A. Constable [and others], 1819. 3 volumes comprising 2 text vols, 8° (210 x 130mm) and 4° atlas vol. (270 x 210mm). Half titles, 10 engraved maps and plans, of which 2 folding and 9 hand-coloured geologically, 33 engraved plates of which one folding and one hand-coloured. Text vols in contemporary calf (edges worn from heat), atlas vol. in half calf over marbled-paper covered boards (all vols rebacked with uniform gilt spines). Provenance: Sarah Tyrconnel (ink ownership inscriptions on titles, wife of:) -- John D. Carpenter (1770-1853, the last Earl of Tyrconnel, engraved armorial bookplates and crest on upper covers of text vols) -- sold at Sotheby's 18 February 1980, lot 86. Provenance: John C. Thackray.
