A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE ARMORIAL PART TEA AND COFFEE SERVICE FOR THE DUTCH MARKET

Each piece delicately enamelled with the arms for Tuineman of Zeeland at the centre below blue enamel floral cartouches reserved on a diaper ground, and grisaille cell-pattern at the rim, comprising:
Two teapots and covers (one cover associated), three teapot-stands, a milk jug, a tea-caddy and cover, a sugar bowl and cover, a slop bowl, nine teabowls, four coffee cups, and eight saucers
The teapots 6 in. (16 cm.) wide, the slop bowl 5? in. (14.3 cm.) diam.

This service was probably ordered for Daniel Tuineman (or Tuneman or Tuijneman). See Dr. Jochem Croes, Chinese Armorial Porcelain for the Dutch Market, The Hague, 2007, no. 74, p. 166, and D. S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, London, 1974, p. 249 and in colour, p. 121, where the author suggests that this service was probably made for Simon Theunemans, a director of the East India Company between 1720 and 1732. See the preceding two lots for dishes from a dinner service made for the same family and of similar date but of slightly different design.
