Lot Essay

Dominik Biemann's fame rests on his skill as an exceptional portrait engraver, receiving many medals for his work at the Harrachov Glass Works. Amongst his many subjects are Herzog Ernst I of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Napoleon, Lord Byron and William Blake. He also engraved a number of fashionably dressed middle-class subjects, although the present sitter remains unidentified.
