Lot Essay

This chair, with its chamfered oak stretchers joined by pegs, recalls the designs of furniture produced by both A.W.N. Pugin and his son, E.W. Pugin. A side chair dated circa 1964 with a similar cross-stretcher is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, item 061207.
