Lot Essay

The poetic inscription is extracted from the early Qing poem Yu Fu Tu by Xing Xiu. It is read as 'dong xi nan bei ren ao you, wan li chang jiang yi ye zhou', and may be translated as: 'Roaming freely to the East, South, West and North; travelling thousands of miles down the Yangtse River on a small boat'. This inscription is followed by the two characters 'wen wan' for 'play thing'.
