A BLUE AND WHITE 'THREE FRIENDS OF WINTER' DISH
DAOGUANG SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARK IN UNDERGLAZE-BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1821-1850)
The dish is potted with shallow rounded sides, supported on a short foot. The interior is painted in different shades of cobalt blue to depict the 'Three Friends of Winter', sui han san you, comprising bamboo, prunus and pine. The exterior is decorated with a mother watching her two boys at play in a garden scene.
7 in. (17.7 cm.) diam.
