A DOUCAI LOBED 'DRAGON AND PHOENIX' BOWL
YONGZHENG SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1723-1735)
The bowl is sturdily potted with tall tapering lobed sides, rising to a slightly flared rim, all supported on a short straight foot. The exterior is finely enamelled in vibrant tones with alternating panel designs, one with a dragon chasing a flaming pearl, the other with a phoenix, all surrounded by scrolling clouds. The interior is decorated with a central lobed roundel enclosing a further writhing five-clawed dragon.
