A RARE YELLOWISH-ORANGE JADE 'ABSTINENCE' PENDANT
18TH CENTURY
One side of the pendant is carved with a pair of confronting archaistic dragons, above an oval panel which contains the characters ‘zhai jie‘ for ‘abstinence’. The other side of the pendant is similarly decorated but with the characters in Manchu script. The slightly translucent stone is of an attractive even honey tone.
