THE MEISSEN 'CRIS DE PARIS' SERIES
The most extensive series produced at the Meissen factory, work on the Cris de Paris series began in 1753. All of the thirty-four characters were originally modeled at Meissen by J.J. Kändler and P. Rienicke and derive from watercolor drawings by Christophe Hüet. Hüet, a French painter and likely the brother of Jean-Charles Hüet a porcelain dealer and importer in Paris, in turn was inspired by and borrowed from the works of Boucher, Bouchardon and Laroon. For an accounting of the Pressnummern recorded on the two issues of this series in the 18th century, see T.H. Clark, 'The French touch at Meissen: Christophe Huet's watercolour drawings from the Cris de Paris, 1753', The International Antiques Dealers Show, New York, 6 October 1990.
