Lot Essay

A virtually identical pair of mirrors, although smaller than this pair, is illustrated in G. Child, World Mirrors, London, 1990, p. 324, fig. 734, and catalogued as Carlos IV, circa 1790. These mirrors, or an almost identical pair, were sold anonymously Sotheby's, Monaco, 19-20 June 1988, lot 1870, and again Sotheby's, London, 16 December 1988, lot 132 (£65,300).
