Lot Essay

The present reference 1675 is a highly rare and attractive example of the legendary model, distinguished by its excellent overall conditition and the retailer's signature Tiffany & Co. printed in gold just above the GMT-Master designation.

The original dial impresses by its special applied luminous dot, baton and dagger numerals with stylish raised gold surround. This particular type of dial, regardless of its colour, is nicknamed "bicchierini" by Italian watch collectors, which translates as "small glasses". Over time, the luminous material of the hour markers has taken an attractive cream-coloured patina, beautifully harmonizing with the gilt printing of the signatures.

An overall charming watch, it further delights by having retained its sharp outlines, crisp gold marks, crisp milling to back and bezel and last but not least the period President bracelet, likewise in excellent condition.

Tiffany and Co.
Originally founded as Tiffany & Young by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young in 1837, the firm is now one of the world's foremost jewellers.

Few companies have captured the public imagination to such an extent as Tiffany & Co. The firm's creations have been worn by members of some of the wealthiest nineteenth and twentieth centuries families, including the Astors, the Vanderbilts, and the prominent banker and watch enthusiast Henry Graves Junior.

The house's fame was further immortalized by the 1961 movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's" starring Audrey Hepburn, and the song "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" sung by Marilyn Monroe in 1953s "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes".

The cooperation between Tiffany & Co. and Rolex is longstanding, but extremely scarce. Examples signed by Tiffany, such as the present lot, are exceedingly rare, especially in this superb condition. Just a handful of GMT-Masters, all references, all materials but particularly in gold, retailed by Tiffany have appeared on the market over the past decade.
