Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1958 and its subsequent sale on 17 August 1962 and servicing tag.

Reference 1463, the only vintage Patek Philippe chronograph model with screw back case and round pushers, is without question one of the celebrated manufacturer's most iconic and noble sports watches. Introduced in 1940, the case has seen a number of improvements and changes to its shape over the years to follow.

Consigned by a private collector, the present example is fresh to the market. It features a nice and charismatic dial never seen before as such and furthermore adorned with the prestigious Hausmann signature. The dial has taken a warm patina that renders it even more attractive.

Hausmann & Co. was founded in Rome in 1794 by Ernst Hausmann, a young German clockmaker and his friend and partner Hermann Frielingsdorf. The firm still resides in the same premises in Rome's historical centre and represents the world's most prestigious watch and clock manufacturers.
The reference 1463 is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wriswatches by M. Huber and A. Banberry, 1988, plate 348, p. 206.
