Lot Essay

Illustrated in the 1886 catalogue of the Parisian bronze-founder F. Barbedienne, the caryatid nymphs are reductions of Germain Pilon's celebrated 'Graces' executed for the monument of Henri II (d. 1566), which has been displayed at the Louvre since 1816.
