A GEORGE III GILT BRASS WALL-MOUNTED HALL LANTERN
POSSIBLY SUPPLIED BY THOMAS CHIPPENDALE, CIRCA 1775 - 90
Of slightly tapering square form, the beaded frame with arched and scrolled tops, terminating on each side with an anthemion finial and with foliate clasps to the corners, the lower edges with a pierced anthemion frieze and S-scroll bracket below, losses, lacking glass and with oxidised surfaces throughout
28 in (71 cm.) high; 12 in. (31 cm.) square
Provenance
Almost certainly supplied to Edwin Lascelles, Lord Harewood (d.1795) and thence by descent at Harewood House, Yorkshire.
