CIRCA 1757-58, BLUE INTERLACED L MARKS ENCLOSING DATE LETTER E TO TEAPOT, INDISTINCT DATE LETTER TO MILK-JUG, BLUE CROWN PAINTER'S MARK FOR JEAN-CHARLES SIOUX TO TEAPOT AND MILK-JUG, INCISED BP AND GILT MARK T BELOW A DOT TO TRAY, PERHAPS FOR FRANCOIS BINET, VARIOUS INCISED LETTERS
Each piece painted in blue with arches or bands entwined with trailing flowers within gilt-dentil rims, comprising:
A teapot and cover (théière 'Calabre'), the cover with a flower finial (minor chipping to tip of spout)
A milk-jug with an entwined foliate handle (pot à lait 'Hébert')
A sugar-bowl (pot à sucre 'Hébert') (lacking cover, small flat rim chip)
Two cups and saucers (gobelets 'Hébert' et soucoupes)
A rectangular tray (plateau 'Courteille')
(some minor wear to gilding)
The tray 11? in. (29.5 cm.) wide

Please note that the decoration on the teapot and cover and milk-jug is very close to that on the remainder of the other pieces in this "tete a tete" service but there are minor differences in decoration and therefore these two pieces may be matched.

Lot Essay

Jean-Charles Sioux, l'aîné, was a painter of monchrome flowers, patterns and feathered edges, and was active at the Sèvres manufactory from 1752-1792.
