Lot Essay

The arms are those of Clinton accollé with Pelham quartering Pelham, almost certainly for the Hon. Henry Clinton 9th Earl of Lincoln (1720-1794), later Henry Pelham-Clinton, 2nd Duke of Newcastle-under-Lyne and his wife Catherine Pelham, daughter of Rt. Hon. Henry Pelham and Lady Catherine Manners, whom he married in 1744. He was the second son of Henry Clinton, 7th Earl of Lincoln.
