Each vase is reserved on the powder blue ground decorated with a panel enclosing a scene from the 'Xi Xiang Ji', Romance of the Western Chamber, where an attendant holding a letter sits on a branch overhanging a river, below a pavilion with Ying Ying and another panel enclosing ducks at a river bank.
