Monet recommends the services of Mademoiselle Melanie Le Ray, who has been in his employment as a cook since 2 February 1915, noting her culinary skill and good character and remarking that he will be sad to see her go, she leaves ‘de son plein gré’. Monet kept a large staff at Giverny, which at one point included seven gardeners.
