BROOM -- LOEB, Harold A. (editor). Broom. An International Magazine of the Arts. New York: Loeb, 1921-1923. 15 issues, 2° (c.320-c.230mm) and 4° (c.273-c.202mm; for issue 5.1). Tipped-in half-tone plates, monochrome illustrations throughout, many of these full-page. (A few leaves roughly opened, one plate loose but present, occasional damp-staining.) Original colour-printed wrappers (three covers detached, most with some chips and tears, issue 3.2 dampstained in the bottom margin).
A LONG RUN OF THIS IMPORTANT AND LAVISHLY PRODUCED MODERNIST PERIODICAL 'in the vanguard of an intellectual movement', 'nothing quite like its aristocratic format had ever been seen in America' (Hoffman). With cover designs by El Lissitzky (1), Goncharova, Léger (2), Gris, Marcousis, Medgyes (2) and others, and plates and illustrations after Picasso, Derain, Grosz, Moholy-Nagy, and others.
