Portrait of William Pole of Ballyfin (d. 1781), bust-length, in a blue coat with gold trim

The sitter was godfather and distant cousin of William Wellesley, Baron Maryborough and later 3rd Earl of Mornington, to whom he bequeathed his estates. Wellesley assumed the additional surname of Pole on succeeding in 1781.
